Get traffic from Flickr

For a while, I have been thinking of using flickr, facebook and other web 2.0 sites in the marketing of my own websites. Inspired by this article I figured it was time to get started and try to get some traffic from flickr.

As suggested by yourwealth.org I started uploading some photos not related to my site's subject. I guess the point by doing this, is to make your flickr profile look more trustworthy and less spammy. I also customized my personal flickr profile - again to make it more trustworthy. After customizing my profile I uploaded my "real" photos - photos related to my site's subject.

When uploading your photos, remember to add descriptive titles, descriptions, tags and notes. It all helps attracting visitors for your photos. Also remember to add your link to the description. Just use plain HTML code.

Then I joined all the flickr groups related to my site's topic. In this case cooking, food and drinks. The more groups you sign up for, the more people will se your photos and hopefully click through to your website. But remember only to sign up for relevant groups. You don't gain anything from spamming. Some groups need approval, so it might be a good idea to upload some relevant photos also (if you request membership of a group about food you might want to upload some nice food pictures to your profile, so the admin can see that you will be an asset to the group). Also remember that you can only submit your pictures to 10 different groups per picture unless you have a "pro" member. I recommend you buy a "pro" membership so you can submit your photos to unlimited groups.

Then I submitted each of my photos to all groups relevant to them. My first 3 photos where all seen by around 100 other users within the first couple of weeks. And it even resulted in a little traffic to my website. Furthermore a few people either commented my photos or marked my photos as their "favorites". When people do that, makes sure you add them as your contacts. Tehn they will most likely add you as their contact, and then they will be notified about your future photos. This will provide more pageviews for your photos and you will get more traffic from Flickr to your site.

Once you have succeded with this approach on flickr, you can use the same approach on other photo sharing sites.

  • Facebook.com - In spite of being mostly a networking site, Facebook is actually the worlds largest photo sharing site.
  • Photobucket.com (but here you can't market your photos through groups, so you will probably get a lot less traffic from Photobucket).

You can't use this approach on these sites:

  • Webshots.com (It's not possible to link from your photos to your site).

I wish you good luck, and hope you will get alot of traffic from Flickr and all the other photo sharing sites.

New section with gaveideer (ideas for presents)

In coorporation with two other highly qualified partners I've started a new Danish site where users can manage their online gift list. The site is still under development but is already functional (and seems very promising).

Yesterday we launched a new section with ideas for presents (or "gaveideer" as it is called in Danish) for the users to submit to their gift lists. I'm very excited about this new section. Hopefully it willbe usefull to the users and give us high rankings in Google on the targeted keywords.

See the section with gaveideer.

Best regards!

First advertiser on link building site

I almost forgot to tell you that I've closed the deal with the first advertiser on my new link building site, Link Finder. The customer bought a single link even though the site wasn't officially launched yet.

The site is now in beta and there is a few minor bugs to be fixed, but hopefully I will soon be ready to start searching for partners and advertisers.

Alle-Festsange.dk improving search engine rankings

Shortly after my last report about Alle-Festsange.dk the site dropped to no. 22 on Google for the keyword festsange but now the site is back in top 20. Actually it's ranking better than ever as no. 16 for the keyword mentioned above and still no. one at MSN.
I've startet to submit the site to my list of Danish directories. Hopefully this will improve rankings even more. I'll keep you posted on the sites further journey to no. one rankings for the most important keywords.

Best Regards!

New newsletter system

Advertisements in newsletters is an important source of income in my company (and in many other doc coms). Until last week I sent out all my newsletters through my own home made newsletter script on my ordinary webserver. But last week I moved my largest newsletter (recipes of the week from WebOpskrifter.dk) to a dedicated newsletter solution at one of the leading Danish webhosting companies, Scannet. After some minor problems implementing the system I sent out my first newsletter through this new solution and the result was great. New income record for a single newsletter. Now this could just be a coincidence, so I'm very excited to see the income for my next couple of newsletters.
If the good results continue I might consider to move my other newsletters to the system at Scannet.

Important things in life

Tonight my favorite soccer team played UEFA Cup match in Moscow against Lokomotiv. As Lokomotiv won the tournament a few years ago they were expected to win tonight to but after an incredible first half Brondby had scored twice and Lokomotiv zero. Quite a while since I've seen my team play this good and of course this affected my mood in a very positive way:-)

But after an awfull second half Lokomotiv had scored 4 goals and Brondby threw it all away. Absolutely awfull!!

It took me about half an hour to cool of but then it reminded me why I started my own business. I love to watch my favorite soccer team, but I hate to loose and I hate the fact that I can't do anything about it. That was exactly one of the reasons why I started my own company. Here I'm in control of things and I can lead my company in the direction I want.

But when all that's said, I'll remind my-self what's really important in life. That's why I will shut down my laptop now, take my bike and drive home to my girlfriend. Maybe you should think about what's important in your life.

Niche site allready no. 1 on MSN!

My new niche website about occasional songs is allready no. 1 on the MSN search engine for the keyword "festsange". Furthermore the site is no. 19 on Google for the same keyword (best ranking so far).

It's very satisfying to achieve these good results this fast. These rankings have resulted in a couple of hundred visitors every day.

I continue my work with this site and hopefully the site will clime further up the result pages on Google.

Addicted to sudoku?

Well, in Denmark people play sudoku more than ever before. All major Danish newspapers have a daily sudoku and people buy special sudoku magazines.

I don't really understand this sudoku mania but ofcourse I had to act on the popularity of the little Japanese game. Therefore I've made a new little site, where people can play the game online and for free. The site is called: Gratis Sudoku Opgaver.

Feel free to visit the site if you are addicted to sudoku.
